Attendance

Absences & Tardies

Parents play a fundamental role in the education of their children. Nobody else commands greater influence in getting a child to school and recognizing how a good education can define his or her future. Absences and tardiness are strongly discouraged. If your child will be absent or tardy from school, please call your child’s school office by 9:30 a.m. School staff will contact parents/guardians on all unverified absences. If possible, we encourage parents to schedule appointments on days we are not in school (in-service, holiday breaks, etc.). If your child is tardy or arrives at school late (i.e., doctor's appointment), the parent/guardian must come into the office to sign the child in for the remainder of the school day. It is the practice of Goddard elementary schools to notify parents when a child has been tardy to school five times.

Students must be in their classroom by the 8:45 bell or they will be considered Tardy.

Students that arrive at school after 11:00 am, it is considered an excused/unexcused Absence. If they arrive before 11:00 am, it is an excused/unexcused Tardy.

Students that are checked out early are marked as excused/unexcused for 2nd half of the day if before 2:00 pm. If students leave after 2:00 pm, it does not affect their attendance.

Students absent from school or leave school during the day due to illness may not participate in school activities that day or evening (I.e., parties, field trips, music concerts).
