Rules, homework policy, grades

5 Major rules in my classroom are:

  1. Show respect to others and school property.
  2. Follow directions.
  3. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
  4. Work quietly and do not disturb others.
  5. Bring paper, pencils, books, and completed assignments every day.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                I use the following positive classroom  reinforcement techniques:

As a class, they work together to earn 10 class compliments from other teachers. Once 10 compliments have been earned, a vote will be taken to see what class reward will be given. EX: extra recess, pj day, technology time, a short video, etc. They make up the reward options then vote.

I reserve the right to make the consequence fit the action accordingly.  Please remember that some actions, such as talking excessively, hitting, running in the hall, etc. do not need a verbal warning.  These are things that the students should know not to do. When a child receives a “Turnover”, they will have the opportunity to move their basketball “back on the court” if their behavior is corrected.  If a child is often reaching the second or third consequence, I will call or send a note regarding their behavior.  I feel that it is extremely important that disruptive behavior in the classroom be dealt with quickly, consistently, and with respect for all involved.  As a classroom teacher, my effectiveness is greatly diminished if time that could be spent teaching is used to correct misbehaviors.  I want the children to feel their classroom is a safe and happy learning environment.
