Weekly Newsletter: We will have a weekly newsletter that will be emailed to you. If you do not have access to email, please let us know and we will send you a paper copy. The newsletter will keep you informed of the activities we are working on related to the theme of the week. It will include the letters, numbers, colors, shapes and book we are reading and some activities you can do at home. Look in the newsletter for information about parent-teacher conferences, field trips and other happenings during the year. Most information is emailed throughout the school year.
Speech Folder: Pictures of the vocabulary and concepts from the books we are reading will be included in the folder and updated each week. Please review these words with your child. The underlined sounds are ones that preschoolers should be able to pronounce correctly. If your child cannot identify the pictures verbally, it would be beneficial to have him/her point to the pictures as you name them. The speech folder may not be looked at each day, so please use the communication folder to send notes to school.
Field Trips: We will have the opportunity to go on two field trips this year. Parents and/or grandparents are more than welcome to meet us at any field trip. Permission forms will be sent home in advance. Please return them promptly. Children without signed permission forms will not be able to go on the scheduled field trip. If you do not wish to have your child participate in a field trip, please keep them home on the day of the field trip and notify the teacher that you are doing so.
Parent-Teacher Conferences: We will have parent-teacher conferences two times during the school year. We will call to schedule a convenient time. If your child’s IEP is due close to the time that we have conferences, we will not have a conference as we will meet for the IEP.
Birthdays: Birthdays are very special days in preschool. You are welcome to send birthday treats with your child. Please call the classroom to schedule.
Library: Our classroom goes to the CDS library on Mondays. The first time we go to the library your child will bring home a form for you to indicate if you want your child to check out books or not. Books may be checked out for one week.
Cooking: Each week your child will have the opportunity to participate in a cooking activity related to our weekly theme. We occasionally have some special cooking activities when we ask for donations.
Clothing: Children should always be dressed appropriately for the weather. Be sure that your child’s clothing is comfortable, washable (we do messy things), and allows for self-dressing. Shorts underneath dresses are encouraged. When the weather is cold, please: send mittens, hat and a jacket/coat. We go outside when the weather cooperates.
Dropping of children at school: At the beginning of each session preschool staff will be at the south doors to assist the students getting off the buses and greet parents who bring their children. If you bring your child to school, it is very important for you to accompany your child to the school building. If you arrive after the school start time, you must check your child in at the school office. Please walk them to our classroom.
Illness: If your child is sick and will not be attending preschool, please call the classroom and school. If children come to school when they are not feeling well, they will be more vulnerable to infection. A child needs to be well in order to participate actively in the program. If your child becomes sick while at school and you are called, please cooperate by picking up your child promptly.
Communication: Please keep us informed of changes in address, phone number, employment, emergency or any changes in family situations. Also keep us informed if your child is sick and will not be attending school, will be gone for an extended period of time (i.e. family vacation) or is being picked up by someone else. If you need to speak with the preschool staff during the day, please leave a message if we do not answer and we will return your call as soon as we can.
Other Information: Please do not send toys to school.
Please feel free to contact us anytime if you have questions or concerns.
