“Our goal is the safety, health, and education of your child.”

Parents/Guardians may be called to come and pick up their child during the day if their student becomes ill/injured. Some of the criteria used to determine if your child will be sent home or should remain at home are as follows:

1. TEMPERATURE: Your child will be sent home for a temp.of 99.6 with symptoms, such as headache, sore throat, nausea, and rash. A student with a temperature of 100.4 degrees and above with no symptoms will also be sent home.

2. Students should remain at home until fever free for 24 hours without the aid of fever reducing medication.

3. VOMITING/DIARRHEA: Students with vomiting and/or diarrhea should stay home until they are free from symptoms for 24 hours.

4. INJURY: Any injury with unusual swelling, discoloration, or pain. Cuts, which appear to require stitches or dental injuries.

5. HEAD LICE: We will notify parents of students with untreated head lice and ask that their student be picked up from school and treated before returning to school. Current KDHE and CDC guidelines for individuals with head lice are no longer required to be excluded from school.

6. K.S.A. 65-122: These guidelines, in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control, will also be used in regards to specific contagious diseases and infections.

7. The nurse will use the above guidelines and their professional judgment to make decisions regarding the health of your child and other students enrolled in the school.

A sick child cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in class as usual. Keeping the student home prevents the spread of illness in the school and allows your child the opportunity to rest and recover completely from their illness. Please do not hesitate to call your school nurse with any questions.
